The Role of an Specialist Transport Assistant
The role and training you will undertake as a Specialist Transport Assistant is varied and exciting. Initial training will consist of in the classroom covering patient care, clinical practice, mental health, restraint training and other key aspects of the role. You will be:
- Responsible for the care and safe transportation of mental health patients.
- Ensuring timely transportation to and from appointments at hospitals, treatment centres, day units or other places of care.
- At all times the post holder must ensure patient safety and reduction in harm to patients, self, colleagues and others by assessing risks and adopting safe working practices.
You must:
- Meet Nerams` requirements for fitness and health standards, including the DVLA group 2 driving standards
- Good attendance record in terms of number and length of absences. High standards of personal hygiene. Wear uniform as supplied and directed
- Full manual car driving licence (A minimum of 1 years driving experience with fewer than 6 penalty points).
- Expectation of dealing with people, demonstrating sound customer care skills.
- Working with the public or public involvement
- To be flexible and adaptable, trustworthy, approachable and tactful.
- To be diplomatic, caring, empathetic, enthusiastic and a mature attitude
- To be able to handle traumatic, emotional and distressing situations
- To be able to deal with various patient conditions, some of which that can be distressing.
- A minimum entry age of 21yrs old.
When completing Mental Health transportation you will work alongside other Specialist Transport staff, as well as the police, mental health services and other healthcare professionals to transport mental health patients. This may be for assessment or treatment at another location from where they are in the community, hospital or prison.
This role will utilise all the new skills you have learnt in the classroom. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and be willing to put patient care at the forefront of what they do.
