Exciting Opportunity: Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner – Bone Marrow Transplant & Cellular Therapy
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner to join our dynamic team within the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Physiotherapy Service at the University Hospital of Wales. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a highly specialised area, focusing on cellular therapy and BMT, making a real difference in the lives of patients with haematological malignancies and conditions.
As part of the BMT physiotherapy service, you will play an integral role in the care of patients with blood cancers and conditions across South Wales. You will support patients at every stage of their journey, from pre-transplant through to survivorship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support physiotherapy staff in delivering high-quality care to patients within the BMT service, working in a variety of settings including the haematology ward, teenage cancer unit, and outpatient setting.
- Assist in optimising patients’ pre-transplant fitness, providing regular face-to-face, telephone, and virtual reviews to help them achieve their best level of fitness prior to treatment.
- Play an essential role in daily physiotherapy input for inpatients to prevent deconditioning and continue rehabilitation post-transplant to help patients regain activity and function.
Main duties of the job
- Work closely with physiotherapists to run group sessions focused on increasing physical activity and improving fitness levels, as well as providing individual support, both in-person and virtually.
- Demonstrate exceptional communication skills, offering empathetic support to patients and collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
What We’re Looking For:
- A compassionate and motivated Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner witha strong desire to support cancer patients through their recovery process.
- Experience working in inpatient and outpatient settings is desirable, but a genuine interest in haematology rehabilitation is essential.
- A proactive approach to patient care, with the ability to motivate patients and help them navigate the physical and emotional challenges of their treatment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with patients, families, and the wider healthcare team effectively.
