In line with our expansion strategy to become the UK’s leading company in African and Caribbean foods, we are seeking an experienced Chef to join our team and assist in managing our kitchen in Southeast London.
Job Description:
The role of a Chef in our company will include the following responsibilities: responsible for high standard and quality of the Northern Nigerian cuisine meals prepared, carry out quality control on foodstuffs from suppliers, planning of variety of menus, recipes and dishes, cook foodstuffs, control and direct and oversee the preparation of food, approve the quality and polish dishes before they reach the customer; manage and work closely with other Chefs of all levels and maintain an orderly environment, supervise, organise and instruct kitchen staff and manage the whole kitchen or an area of the kitchen; responsible for ensuring the kitchen meets all regulations including sanitary and food safety guidelines; plan and coordinate kitchen work such as fetching, clearing and cleaning of equipment and utensils; prepare spices according to the recipe, marinate the meat including smoking, grilling and drying the meat.
Knowledge:
– English language proficiency (a degree, diploma, or an IELTS certificate at level B1 or above), which is in line with the Skilled Worker Visa requirements
–food hygiene levels 2 or higher is essential
–Culinary Expertise: A deep understanding of Northern Nigerian cuisine, including its traditional ingredients, flavors, and cooking techniques.
-Menu Planning: Knowledge of menu creation, recipe development, and the ability to design a variety of menus that cater to different tastes and dietary preferences.
–Food Quality Control: Understanding of quality control processes to ensure that foodstuffs from suppliers meet high-quality standards.
–Cooking Techniques: Proficiency in various cooking methods, such as smoking, grilling, and drying meat, to create authentic and delicious dishes..
-Kitchen Management: Familiarity with kitchen management, including organization, inventory management, and equipment maintenance.
–Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with other chefs and kitchen staff at all levels to maintain a harmonious and efficient kitchen environment.
Skills:
-Cooking Skills: Exceptional cooking skills to prepare Northern Nigerian cuisine with precision and consistency.
-Quality Control: The ability to evaluate the quality of ingredients and dishes to maintain high standards.
-Leadership: Strong leadership skills to oversee and direct kitchen staff effectively.
Communication: Effective communication skills to coordinate with kitchen staff and collaborate on menu planning and execution.
-Organisational Skills: Excellent organizational skills to manage kitchen operations, including scheduling, ordering supplies, and maintaining cleanliness.
Problem-Solving: Quick thinking and problem-solving abilities to address any kitchen-related challenges or issues that may arise.
Experience:
-Culinary Experience: Previous experience as a Chef, particularly with a focus on Northern Nigerian cuisine, is highly desirable.
-Menu Planning: Experience in planning and developing menus to cater to diverse customer preferences.
-Kitchen Management: Proven experience in managing a kitchen or a specific area within a kitchen, including supervising and instructing kitchen staff.
Food Safety Compliance: Experience in ensuring kitchen operations adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines.
-Quality Assurance: Experience in maintaining and upholding high food quality standards.
Spice Preparation: Proficiency in preparing spices according to traditional recipes.
-Meat Preparation: Expertise in marinating, smoking, grilling, and drying meat, as these are integral to Northern Nigerian cuisine.
Candidates with a combination of the above knowledge, skills, and experience will be well-suited for the role of Chef in Our Northern Nigerian cuisine establishment.
