Job Summary

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides services within the Northumberland and North Tyneside areas serving a population of 500,000 people and an area of 2000 sq. miles. Laboratory services are located at North Tyneside General Hospital, Wansbeck General Hospital and the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH) which opened in 2015 as England’s first purpose-built specialist emergency care hospital, with emergency consultants on site 24/7, as well as consultants in a range of specialities working seven days a week.

We are looking for a qualified, enthusiastic and motivated Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist.

Candidates should have a flexible approach to working, demonstrate good organisational skills and the ability to work without close supervision.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will practice as a registered Biomedical Scientist in the Haematology /Blood Transfusion Department, working as part of a team in the provision of a high quality diagnostic service to Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust and General Practitioners. They will also participate in the supervision, training and development of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

Person Specification

Qualifications / Professional Registration

Essential

  • HPC State Registered
  • BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent in Biomedical Science

Desirable

  • Evidence of Continuing professional development

Experience and knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
  • Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
