Job summary

Are you looking to increase your clinical dietetic skills in Gastroenterology? If so, we have an excellent opportunity to join the Gastroenterology Dietetic team based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, as part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust! We are excited to offer the successful candidate a permanent Band 6 Senior Gastroenterology dietetic post.

The post holder will work within the Gastroenterology Dietetic team, which consists of a Band 7 and a Band 6. The role will involve providing a dietetic service to both inpatient and outpatient Gastroenterology patients. Some of the clinical conditions covered will include IBD, IBS, ALD, Pancreatitis, Diverticulitis, Coeliac Disease, Gastroparesis and there will be opportunities to shadow Colorectal Surgery and Intestinal Failure Teams.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Post qualification experience in an acute NHS hospital setting with a good knowledge of nutrition support, including oral and enteral nutrition, is essential. Experience working with patients with IBD, functional bowel disorders, and coeliac disease is desirable.

The day-to-day tasks will include managing an inpatient and outpatient caseload as well as attending multi-disciplinary meetings and working closely with the wider MDT. The applicant must demonstrate excellent communication skills and time-management capabilities.

Organisation, flexibility and an ability to problem solve and apply clinical reasoning effectively are essential as you will be working in a fast-paced and busy environment.

An integral part of the role will involve assisting with supervision of Band 5’s, and students and providing opportunity to contribute to audits/QI projects to improve patient care.
