Position: Senior Biomedical Scientist Training Officer
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours, with weekend rota participation
Location: London NW1
VISA sponsorship is available for candidates with valid UK visas.
We are seeking a Senior Biomedical Scientist Training Officer to join a renowned medical diagnostics company. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the smooth running of a dynamic histology laboratory environment and ensure the delivery of high-quality histopathology services. As a Senior BMS, you will collaborate closely with senior staff and contribute to professional development, taking on additional responsibilities to enhance your career.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee specimen reception, processing, cutting, staining, and dispatching within agreed turnaround times
- Assist in daily workload management while ensuring quality and accuracy
- Serve as the Lead Senior BMS for training within the laboratory, guiding staff in best practices
- Manage IBMS portfolios and support professional development
- Supervise the work of Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLAs), Medical Technical Officers (MTOs), and Biomedical Scientists (BMS)
- Ensure the operation and maintenance of histology equipment according to department policies
- Maintain strict adherence to Health and Safety regulations and laboratory protocols
- Participate in specimen dissection and assist in various laboratory tasks
- Engage in the annual staff appraisal process to support team development
- Commit to continuous professional development and staying up to date with the latest industry standards
Requirements:
- HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS)
- Member of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS)
- Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent
- At least 4 years of post-state registration experience in a histology laboratory
- Proficient in histological techniques and specimen dissection
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and safe laboratory practices
- Familiarity with laboratory IT systems and accreditation processes
- Experience managing and supervising laboratory staff
- Ability to train others and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures
